Wetzel Sponsors International Business Etiquette Luncheon in Greenville
Written by Erin Maughon

Wetzel Services sponsored a luncheon for the Upstate International Business Network on April 2, 2008 that featured an educational hour on International Business Etiquette.

Erin Maughon, Language Training Director at Wetzel, facilitated an interactive panel discussion while incorporating a portion of Wetzel’s Intercultural Seminar activities. The panelist speakers represented Germany, France, Mexico, Venezuela, China and Japan while fielding audience questions regarding business etiquette in their respective countries. A few etiquette pointers that were given by the panelists include:

  1. Business dress in Germany is fairly formal.
  2. Time is flexible in France.
  3. Time is flexible, but you are expected to be punctual in Mexico.
  4. Inviting a colleague to one’s home is not common in China or Japan.

Anette Menke, an expat from Germany who has participated in Wetzel’s Intercultural Seminar, joined Erin at the luncheon as a panelist speaker. Anette offered insight into conducting business in Germany by sharing her experiences as a Public Relations Manager in Munich prior to relocating to Greenville.

Wetzel approaches Intercultural Training in the same fashion. We work with natives of the country being represented to provide Intercultural Training Seminars; therefore, participants can feel confident they will receive accurate information about culture, customs and daily life in the destination country.
